1938-2017
Over his fifty years of practice, Dennis D. O’Neil distinguished himself as one of the preeminent land use lawyers in Southern California. He served his many clients with intelligence, pragmatism, grace and good humor.
Mr. O’Neil served as the Assistant City Attorney and then City Attorney for the City of Newport Beach from 1969-1979. He was elected to two terms on the Newport Beach City Council from 1994-2002 and served as Mayor in 1999. Mr. O’Neil was named the Newport Beach Citizen of the Year for 2006. Mr. O’Neil was appointed by the Orange County Board of Supervisors and as a trustee on the Orange County Public Law Library Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2008. He joined O’Neil LLP as a partner in 1994 and continued to practice with us until his passing on January 6, 2017.
Dennis D. O’Neil was a generous community servant and a highly skilled, effective and honorable attorney. We will continue to honor his name and legacy at O’Neil LLP.
